On Saturday November 23rd, the department hosted its annual Christmas Banquet. This time was a change in tradition for everyone as it was held at the Best Western in Bridgeport instead of our station. Some members received awards in various categories and our Top 10 Responders were also recognized. Thanks again to Spelter VFD Co. 11 for covering for us while we enjoyed our evening together.

Nutter Fort Fire Department would like to thank Invisible Fence of West Virginia for their generous donation of a pet oxygen mask kit. This will allow responders to provide immediate life saving oxygen therapy to pets who have been exposed to prolonged smoke inhalation. Tonight, Sean Meigs, from MSA came to Nutter Fort Fire Department to provide a full training in service as well as a question and answer session regarding our newly purchased MSA G1 airpacks. This past Friday, Lieutenants Ferrari and McClain along with Firefighter/EMT Merrill attended the annual Mountain State Forest Festival Fireman’s Parade in Elkins with Squad 7 where they brought home “Judges Choice”. This parade is a yearly tradition for our department and is know to be one of the largest fireman’s parades in the state.

Over the past 2 weekends, 7 members obtained their PADI Open Water Diver Certification. These members will continue their dive training to the highest level possible in order to establish a Dive Team to supplement our Swiftwater Rescue Team. The Nutter Fort Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a new ISO Class Rating of 3. This is a 2 point drop from our previous rating of 5. This past weekend, 13 members from the 7 House participated in Core Rescue Class instructed by Scott "Pickle" Wilburn. This class is a new requirement for members to ride on Squad 7 and consists of awareness level knowledge for every rescue discipline including extrication, rope rescue, swift water rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue, and wilderness search and rescue. This Sunday February 1st, marked one year since our brother and beloved friend Firefighter/EMT-Intermediate Michael "Mikey" Garrett died tragically in the line of duty while rescuing a trapped worker from a cell phone tower collapse. A small ceremony was held at the station in his rememberence with his locker being sealed after being blessed by Father Casey. This morning members of the Sophia City VFD located in Raleigh County, just outside of Beckley, came by to pick up their "new" squad truck. Unit 76 served the department well over the past 8 years and will continue to serve the citizens of its new department. Congrats guys.
